THE TIGRAYAN-LED ETHIOPIAN STATE, REPRESSION, TERRORISM
AND GROSS HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN OROMIA AND ETHIOPIA[i]
By Prof. Asafa Jalata, University of Tennessee - Knoxville
The minority Tigrayan-led Ethiopian government[ii] is attempting to give a final solution for a large political problem that has existed for several centuries—the relationship between the Oromo and their Amhara-Tigrayan colonizers. In this way, it is trying to establish a Tigrayan hegemonic state both in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa. Since 1992, the Meles government has been focusing on brutally attacking the Oromo national movement led by the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) and on robbing the economic resources of Oromia in order to enrich Tigrayan elites and their collaborators and to specifically develop the Tigrayan region.

-
Created on Monday, 13 September 2010 21:06

The condition in the Horn of Africa is daily getting bitterer for ordinary people and abusive to rights and liberties of nations and individuals. Despite that Oromo nationalists are not forming common understanding from experience got through struggle. The later has been tried several times since the formation of the OLF but remained stagnated. Because of it the negative impact on psyche of society was significant. That, that was a mistake can be seen from the many wasted opportunities. Oromiya and her neighbors are on fire as a result of mismanaged governance. In particular unless Oromiyaa seeks a way out, destruction being aimed at her is total and grave. To break out of this requires cooperation of nationalists.

A Historic Example that Reveals Marginalization of the Oromo Youth in Ethiopia
By Siiban Abbichuu
“Across Africa, more citizens believe they now have the power and the duty to shape their own lives, to help their communities, to hold their governments accountable. So for all of the challenges, which we hear much about, I want to focus on these gains, because it is through this positive progress that we can motivate and incentivize even more to take place…” said Hillary Rodham Clinton, US Secretary of State, in her speech to more than 100 youth invited from the Sub-Saharan African countries to the White House, on August 3, 2010. Well said Madam Clinton! The invitation of 115 youth from about 46 African countries to discuss the challenges facing sub-Saharan Africa with seating US president in the White House is a good start.
